De Canon EOS R7 is een camera met een APS-C sensor van 32,5 mp en een RF vatting. Door de format van de sensor, is deze camera meer compact en dus perfect om mee te nemen, bijvoorbeeld voor wildlife fotografie. Door de Dual pixel CMOS AF II is de autofocus zeer snel en efficiënt, met onderwerp tracking. Het is verder een snelle camera dankzij de krachtige DIGIC X processor en kan dus continu opnamens tot 15 fps maken (30 fps met de elektronische sluiter). Hij kan in full HD tot 120 fps opnemen en 4K tot 60p en vloeiende 4K/30p video’s oversampled van 7K voor meer scherpte, minder moiré en minder ruis. Het is ook mogelijk om met 10 bit sampling te werken met Canon Log 3.
Verder heeft de camera een breed ISO-bereik van 100 - 32 000 (uitbreidbaar tot ISO 51 200) en beeldstabilisatie van 7 stops.
De afmetingen van de camera zijn 132 x 90 x 91,7 en hij weegt 530 g.
