Behind the Scenes | Nooit meer terug

For this Behind the Scenes Blogpost, we take you behind the scenes at the filming of Dominique Westphal's graduation film "Never Go Back".

In this film, Dominique tells her own story about a moment in her life when she lost herself in addiction. She also shows this story from her own experience. In the film, 2 characters present Dominique. One character is Do 14 years ago (10 years old) and the other character is Do 4 years ago (20 years old). The younger character symbolises; for the little voice in your head, your inner child and your gut feeling that is always trying to protect you somewhere.

As Do from 4 years ago seems to lose herself deeper and deeper, her inner child voice (Do from 10 years ago) tries to save her. She tries this by making Do of 4 years ago really look at herself again.

Dominique tells this story in the form of a film/video clip without dialogue, making the use of different style elements visually very important.

The Sirui Jupiter Cine Prime Set provided the right look and feel in the shots. This made it possible to get close to the skin of the characters.

The combination of the Easy rig and the Shoulder rig also helped tremendously in bringing the right camera movements and flow to the film.

For the dreamy look over the images, they used the Tiffen filterset

And of course, the whole thing needs to be able to keep rolling long enough so a V-mount accu was used for this.

As the film will be sent to film festivals, the result is still some time away. And the Behind the Scenes footage makes us look forward to the final work!
