17-02-2025 By Budgetcam Tips & Tricks

Good audio is essential to telling a strong story. You can shoot the most beautiful images, but if your audio is poor, your message will be lost. Fortunately, the Sennheiser EW-DP transmitter set offers a professional, digital solution for capturing crystal-clear audio. In this blog, we explain step by step how to set up this set and make the most of it.

Why choose the Sennheiser EW-DP?

The Sennheiser EW-DP is a compact and powerful wireless microphone set, ideal for content creators who want high quality audio without complicated settings. Unlike the analog Sennheiser EW112, this set is fully digital, ensuring a stable and interference-free connection.

Benefits of the Sennheiser EW-DP:

  • Digital transmission for interference-free sound
  • Versatile connection options: XLR & minijack
  • Modular design: multiple receivers can be stacked with magnetic attachment
  • Long battery life: up to 7 hours on one charge or with AA batteries as backup
  • Easy operation via an OLED screen and intuitive buttons

This set lets you capture professional audio without noise, distortion or hassle of interference.

Step 1: Connecting the transmitter set

  1. Place the receiver on your camera or rig. Thanks to the magnetic mount, you can easily stack multiple units.
  2. Connect the receiver via XLR or mini jack, depending on your camera or recorder.

Step 2: Settings on the Sennheiser EW-DP

All settings are easily managed through the OLED screen and the five buttons on the receiver. Follow these steps to set the sound correctly:

  1. Open the menu: Press and hold SET to open the menu.
  2. Set the Gain: Go to Gain and set it to +18 dB. Press SET again to confirm.
  3. Set Output level: Set the output to -20 dB. This prevents you from having to amplify the sound internally on your camera too much, which can cause noise.

Tip for Sony FX3 users: Set the audio level to 10 to 12 for the best balance between clarity and dynamics.

Step 3: Recording with perfect audio

Now that your settings are right, you're ready to record. The combination of the EW-DP transmitter and the MKE Essential lavalier microphone ensures clear, professional sound, even in crowded environments.

Want to keep ambient sounds subtle? With the right settings, you can manually reduce the volume of background noise, such as traffic or water, or add a natural effect to your recording.
