Wondering what makes the Sony FX3 and Sony FX30 so great?

Sony FX3: A cinematic workhorse

With a 35mm full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor, the Sony FX3 camera captures every detail. The FX3 offers a wide ISO range of 80-102400, expandable to 409600, allowing you to shoot in even the most challenging lighting conditions.

Built-in 5-axis stabilization and lightning-fast autofocus makes this a perfect camera for both run and gun and studio work. The included top handle gives you the ability to quickly and efficiently connect high-end audio.

The ability to record 4K UHD up to 120p and FHD up to 240p gives you the freedom to create slow-motion footage. And with no recording limit to 4K 60p, external RAW recording, an internal fan for cooling, a vari-angle touchscreen, and minimal rolling shutter, the FX3 is designed for filmmakers who don't compromise.

Sony FX30: Small, powerful and versatile

The Sony FX30 offers a lot of features in a small design, with its 26.1MP APS-C BSI CMOS sensor and the ability to oversample 6K images for razor-sharp 4K output. The FX30 offers a dual base ISO of 800/2500 in S-Log3, giving you the best exposure in any situation.

Also, the APS-C sensor allows you to use more lenses than the FX3's full frame sensor. Mainly lenses like the Laowa Nanomorph anamorphic lenses are specially made to work on a sensor like that of the FX30.

The FX30 records in 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC S-I and offers 16-bit raw output, along with S-Cinetone/S-Log3/HLG for more than 14 stops of dynamic range. With Fast Hybrid & Real-time Eye AF, you're always assured sharp focus where it counts. The FX30 offers you security for any production, large or small.

Core differences between Sony FX3 and FX30

At first glance, the Sony FX30 and FX3 may seem very similar, but there is a difference between the two models. Not much is noticeable about the appearance, only that the Sony FX30 is the lightest camera in the Sony Cinema Line. The FX30 is almost 80 grams lighter than the FX3.

The rest of the differences are internal, the most significant difference being that the FX30 has an APS-C sensor. The FX3 has a full frame sensor which, compared to the FX30's crop sensor, is better in low light conditions. But the FX30 also delivers clear, sharp images without noise thanks to its unique Dual Base ISO, high sensitivity and wide dynamic range.

The FX30 has significantly more megapixels, at 20.1 megapixels for video compared to 10.2 megapixels of the FX3. This means that the FX30 can oversample its 4K video from 6K, leading to more detailed video compared to the FX3's 4K.

The FX3, on the other hand, has a faster readout speed due to its lower megapixels. This means that the rolling shutter is significantly less. In case you are filming fast moving subjects, you will have much less distortion than with the FX30.

The autofocus on the new FX30 has been further enhanced, for example AF tracking now works not only on people and animals but also birds. Finally, the FX30 is almost half the price of the FX3, ideal for novice professionals or filmmakers looking for a secondary camera.

Find out for yourself why the Sony FX3 and FX30 are the perfect choice for your creative projects.
