How to Create a Cinematic Car Commercial with Just 3 Lights

28-05-2025 By Budgetcam Tips & Tricks

How do you turn an ordinary garage into a cinematic location where a car truly stands out? With the right lighting, a solid plan, and of course — a good camera. This shoot was all about contrast and atmosphere.

Creative Vision

We wanted to separate the car from its environment, as if it were placed on a film set. Dark shadows added mystery, while controlled beams of light brought the car to life. The lighting emphasized the shape, lines, and texture of the paint, with a touch of color for extra character.

Lighting Plan & Gear

We used three types of lights, each with its own function:

Nanlux Evoke 900C – Artificial Sunlight

  • Placed outside the garage, shining inward
  • Acts as a powerful “sun” with warm color temperature
  • Creates realistic highlights and shadows on the back wall
  • Adds depth and silhouette effects—makes the space feel real

Nanlite PavoTubes – Color & Accents

  • RGB tubes strategically placed to add ambience:Behind the car for depthInside the car (dashboard) for a soft glow on the driver’s face
  • Colors used: red/orange behind the car, white light inside

Nanlite PavoSlim 240CL RGB LED Light – Soft Modeling

  • Positioned above and to the side of the car
  • Helps define shape without harsh shadows
  • Complements the “sunlight” for a balanced, professional look

What You Can Do With These Lights

These lights give you lots of flexibility. The Nanlux Evoke 900C is powerful enough to simulate sunlight from outside or create a sharp beam through a space.

The Nanlite PavoSlim 240CL RGB LED light with softbox provides smooth, even light—great for subtle highlights or following contours without harsh reflections.

The PavoTubes are perfect for adding mood and accents. Easy to position in corners, behind objects, or even inside a car. Ideal for a splash of color or extra depth.

No complicated setup—just full control over the look and feel of your shot.

Conclusion

This shoot shows how a smart lighting setup can transform an ordinary garage into a cinematic scene. You don’t need a studio—just smart use of light, placed with intent.
