The Sony FX5 is available from mid-August 2026.
The Sony FX5 body is a compact full-frame Cinema Line camera with a 16.6 MP stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, combined with the new BIONZ XR2 processor and an integrated AI Processing Unit. Thanks to the Sony E-mount, Open Gate recording and internal 16-bit X-OCN recording, the camera offers extensive possibilities for professional film productions.
With a dynamic range of more than 15 stops, an ISO range of 320 to 409,600, Three Base ISO (800 dual gain, 4000 and 12800) and the new Dual Gain mode, the FX5 delivers excellent performance in a wide range of lighting conditions. At launch, the camera supports 4K recording up to 120 fps, Full HD up to 240 fps and Open Gate recording via X-OCN up to 60 fps.
The AI-supported Fast Hybrid AF with 759 phase-detection points accurately recognises and tracks people, animals and birds. The camera also features 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, a 3.5-inch 4-axis tilting LCD screen and professional monitoring tools such as False Color, Waveform, Vectorscope and Focus Map. The camera also supports anamorphic de-squeeze up to 2.0x.
The camera features two CFexpress Type A / SD UHS-II card slots, HDMI Type A, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6GHz, Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C. The included Sony XLR-H2 Top Handle enables professional audio recording in 96 kHz / 32-bit float. The optional Sony DVF-EL1 electronic viewfinder is available separately.
The camera is supplied in a B&W Case for safe and practical storage and transport.
Please note: Some video features, including 5K 120fps recording, 4K 240fps slow motion and Open Gate recording in XAVC 4K, will become available through a future firmware update. This update is expected in August 2027 (or later).
